Leaving the Military Is a Challenge: Prism Career Center Can Help

A veteran smiles during a job interview in a human resources officeWe understand that transitioning away from military service brings challenges. Returning to civilian life can be disorienting and adjustments must be made to new social norms, family schedules, dress codes, exercise routines, living spaces, and recreation.

However, when it comes to finding a new career, Prism Career Institute is actively committed to jobs for veterans, with educational programs that prepare veterans for healthcare jobs. We are recruiting veterans to apply for enrollment at all our campus locations in Philadelphia, PA, Cherry Hill, NJ, and West Atlantic City, NJ.

Our Commitment to Assisting Veterans With Job Training

We encourage all our students to make an appointment with our career services department in the early days of their program. That way, our staff can help veterans and other students become familiar with the trends in the field and what opportunities may exist after graduation. The educational training programs at Prism Career Institute form a basis for a variety of careers and specializations. Through personal interaction, our career services staff can help students determine where their strengths and interests lead them.

In addition to personal meetings to discuss interests and program progress, career services staff assists students, graduates, and alumni with networking strategies, externships, clinical experience placements, and general job searching skills, including:

  • Writing resumes and cover letters
  • Practicing job interviews
  • Identifying employment opportunities

Healthcare Jobs for Veterans

Healthcare is a growing sector of the U.S. economy and demand for healthcare workers is high. There are two programs offered at Prism Career Institute that train veterans and other students for healthcare careers, the practical nursing program and the medical assistant program. Each of these programs offers outstanding instruction and prepares students to enter the workforce as quickly as possible. Within both programs, students can follow their talents to specialize in one or more areas of interest. Here are more details about each program:

Practical Nursing Program

Work with a team of medical practitioners to care for patients in a variety of settings, such as the VA hospital, nursing homes, clinics, and home healthcare agencies. After completing the program, graduates may be eligible to apply to the state board of nursing in either Pennsylvania or New Jersey to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nursing. After earning your nursing license, you may be interested in finding jobs for veterans within various PN career opportunities.

Medical Assistant Program

Our medical assistant program provides career opportunities for those who want to work in direct patient care, as well as healthcare workers who prefer to work in administrative capacities. The short-term program at Prism Career Institute provides thorough training for career paths in phlebotomy, medical coding, and medical assisting. Phlebotomy and the fundamentals of medical coding training are included as part of our medical assistant program.

Whether managing electronic health records for insurance billing purposes, helping patients prepare for a medical exam, or taking samples for laboratory testing, these healthcare workers provide essential services for the health and welfare of their communities.

Financial Assistance Available for Veterans and Their Families

Veterans and their eligible dependents qualify for educational benefits as defined by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). Prism Career Institute programs are approved for training veterans who receive these benefits. If you are interested in exploring financial assistance from the VA for your post-service education, submit an education benefits application to a certifying official at Prism Career Institute before enrollment.

After veterans and their eligible dependents start in an educational training program, they are required to maintain a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA. In addition, they must complete the program within an approved number of hours. For more information about how veterans can apply for educational benefits, contact the VA, as well as the financial aid office at Prism Career Institute.
